I have been looking for a topic to stick on my blog for several years. I think I will just start posting stuff until I am happy that I have some meaningful content and just see where this will take off to.... So here goes
1967 MGB Rebuild Project
I have been working on restoring a 67 MGB convertible. It started out just as needing to get it running and get some mirrors on it, but getting it running opened up a lot of issues that you would typically find in a car that has been sitting in storage for awhile.
The fuel delivery system was not able to keep up with the demand from the engine so I replaced the fuel pump. When I went to give it a tune up the distributor shaft was worn unevenly so the points gapped at .033 on the #1 cylinder and as it went around the horn it went from .033 to .015. I don't think I have ever seen that but it looks like the grease dried up and had some rust on one or two lobes which made it wear faster on some of the lobes back when it was being driven regular.
So I replaced the distributor and plug wires and tested the coil. The coil needed replacing so I went ahead and replaced that too. Now that I am done with that it still will not start. I am getting fire to all 4 plugs. I have visually inspected that. The timing is set to 10 degrees off TDC which is the recommended static timing setting for this vehicle. I have verified that TDC on the flywheel is correctly on TDC in sync with the #1 piston.
That leaves fuel delivery again. Gee this sounds familiar. So over the coming weeks I will pull the dual carbs clean them and inspect them to see if they need a rebuild. Goal is to have it running and ready to roll down the road by spring so I have plenty of time.
