So realized I have not posted anything here since 2018, Yikes!!
To catch you up, the land rush is over, and my wife and I found some property in 2020 about 10 miles north of Mt Pleasant, Texas off of 1407. Some 20 years ago or more one of the previous owners took off a bunch of topsoil so we got it at a good deal. It has some erosion problems, but we have plans and we can salvage this property and make it a really nice place with a little hard work. OK a lot of hard work.
The place has a very old log barn that we have been told by family members of the previous owners that it was used to dry corn used by a bunch of bootleggers out here. And the history of the area does have a lot of bootleggers, so it fits. And rumor has it that the previous owner in order to test the raw material I am sure, partook of distilling his own party potion too.
So, the work began on reconditioning an abandoned topsoil pit. After a year of driving both ways on weekends sometimes both weekend days, my adopted dad loaned us a spare motor home. Ok not a lot of people running around out there with a SPARE motorhome but lucky for us he did. We relocated it to an RV site. Being able to stay there over weekends not only saved us a lot of drive time and mileage, but money on gas too.
So now we are cruising right along. We put in a Shop that gave us the opportunity to have all of my family members participate in construction. Strangely enough they have not volunteered to help with any more building???? Hmmm...
There was a well on the property, but the pump had broken off and was on the bottom of the well... We had a company come and pull it out and reposition it and now we have water on the property.
With that milestone in place next step was to get the motorhome out on the property. With a place to stay and store stuff we finally have the opportunity to take on some fun stuff. One of my hobbies I wanted to take on was Raising Bees!! Honeybees that is. Providing the Golden nectar of the gods!!!
So now I have 2 hives and ready to get them through the winter. Won't be taking any Honey this year as it is recommended to let them go through winter first then start taking Honey. I am going to follow that advice.
